What is an “NRTL”?

Question:  What is an “NRTL”?

Answer:  An “NRTL” is an organization (certification body) recognized under the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL)
Program.  https://www.osha.gov/nationally-recognized-testing-laboratory-program.  For
each approved certification body, OSHA issues a scope that identifies the standards
included in the recognition. When certifying a product under the NRTL program, the NRTL
certification body authorizes the manufacturer to apply a registered certification mark to
the product such as the familiar UL, ETL, or CSA certification marks.
There are currently 21 NRTL locations approved under the OSHA NRTL program, a list of all
approved NRTLs and an image of their certification mark can be found
here: https://www.osha.gov/nationally-recognized-testing-laboratory-program/current-list-
of-nrtls. This way, if an NRTL is removed or they change their mark, your page is always
accurate.
